Fort Wayne, Indiana
Offering Indiana & Surrounding Areas Class B Level Electrocoating and DragonHide™ Polyurea Topcoats
Certifications: IATF 16949:2016
PPG Coatings Services’ Fort Wayne, Indiana facility was established in 1986 Hi Mel It offers electrocoat (e-coat) services and is the only facility in North America that applies polyurea-based PPG Dragonhide™ topcoat. Regarded as an industry leader in domestic and overseas markets, the plant now serves an expanded roster of customers in the automotive, commercial, agriculture and heavy truck markets.
Offering high-volume, quick-output Class B automotive e-coat and DragonHide topcoats, the Fort Wayne plant is equipped with an operating system (COS) that ensures consistent and standardized operating processes.
The facility’s duplex pretreatment regimen enables operation of a mixed-metal line, coating aluminum, galvanized, cold roll steel and castings, which along the plant’s e-coat/DragonHide polyurea combination, delivers parts with superior corrosion and vibration resistance. Other markets include heavy truck, CAT, Cummins, and agriculture products.
The Fort Wayne plant operates an 8-stage pretreatment process, prior to electrocoating, that incorporates both impingement and immersion processes to provide superior metal preparation.
A window size of 72 x 36 inches and a coating line equipped with PPG Powercron 590-534 e-coat material—in combination with the duplex pretreatment system—allows the plant to process medium to large Class B components assembled from many metal types.
DragonHide™ Polyurea Topcoat
The plant’s topcoat line, which utilizes robotic technology to apply the polyurea material, features an enclosed booth to accommodate consistent, automated topcoat application.
The topcoat cures at an ambient temperature, allowing the process to be completed in 20 minutes from load to unload. This high production output is supplemented by robotic application of the coating to ensure repeatable and consistent processing. A window size of 48 x 36 inches accommodates processing of small- to medium-sized products.
