Offering Class B Electrocoating, Powder Coating, Acid-Pickling and Wax Injection Services in Livonia, Michigan & Surrounding Areas
PPG Coating Services’ Livonia, Michigan facility, was established in 1984 as one of the first job shops in North America to offer electrocoating (e-coat) to the automotive industry. The plant now provides Class B e-coat and powder services to the automotive and heavy truck markets, with supplementary wax injection and acid-descaling services.
The Livonia facility offers low- and high-volume, Class B coatings for automotive and heavy truck components of all sizes. A (COS) operating system manages all aspects of business, providing systematic, consistent and standardized operating processes. Supported by computerized diagnostic systems, the operating system provides “real time” tracking and data for analysis, resulting in excellent finish quality that meets or exceeds North American, Asian and European OEM aesthetic standards.
EquipmentA state-of-the-art 13-stage, in-line monorail pretreatment system is built to accommodate large volume requirements with part-size variations from small assembly brackets to larger automotive components such as hitches and engine cradles.
The system also features an in-line, phosphoric-acid pickling (acid-cleaning) immersion stage to provide enhanced corrosion resistance for complex welded assemblies containing weld smut, weld burn, mild flash rust, and light scale. The facility also offers an automated cavity-wax application line to further address customer corrosion-resistance requirements.
With 110,000 square-feet of production space and 12 shipping and receiving docks, the Livonia facility can accommodate the largest volume needs.
Using PPG Powercron 590-534 coatings, the Livonia plant boasts one of the largest, in-line monorail systems in the country. The 13-stage pretreatment system, which includes phosphoric acid pickling (acid cleaning), was developed step-by-step in conjunction with FCA to meet Chrysler specification PS-508. With coatings speeds up to 495 square-feet per minute, the line efficiently accommodates small and large parts up to 72 x 28 x 43 inches while exceeding many OEM performance requirements.
The Livonia plant’s in-line powder coat system allows products to transition seamlessly from e-coat to powder application without additional handling while strengthening the corrosion and UV resistance of finished parts. An integrated control system ensures repeatable and consistent processing for parts up to 72 x 28 x 43 inches.
