Providing Detroit & Surrounding Areas Liquid Paint Services for Drivetrain Components
PPG Coatings Services’ Detroit facility was established in 2004 to provide high-volume liquid painting services to OEMs and major Tier One suppliers of light- and medium duty-truck axles and drivetrain components. It is strategically located near OEM plants to provide just-in-time logistic services to those facilities.
Equipped with a high-volume monorail paint system engineered for painting light- and medium-duty truck axle assemblies, the Detroit plant features a robust 9-stage pretreatment system that applies zinc-rich phosphate to axle substrates prior to painting.
The coating line, with fully automated electrostatic fixed applicators and Fanuc robots, applies waterborne paint to full-axle assemblies, along with in-line halo application of rust prevention (RP) materials.
In-line vehicle sequencing to OEM assembly plants, conducted with InSequence software, is complemented by full EDI/ASN capabilities to support OEM and Tier One logistic requirements.
With more than 260,000 square-feet of manufacturing and warehouse space, the plant is served by 13 shipping and receiving docks to support timely product delivery to customer assembly plants.
The upgraded pretreatment system at the Detroit plant encompasses spray application of zinc-phosphate with proper wastewater treatment, followed by fully automated application of a single layer of black, waterborne paint. Based on SBR (Styrene Butadiene Rubber), the paint delivers improved corrosion resistance on many substrates commonly used for drivetrain components. An enhanced and fully automated paint application system provides excellent coverage and consistent, uniform and repeatable layers of film volume on finished parts.
PPG Coatings Services is committed to providing services that enhance the product offering to our customers. Among the many value-added services offered at this facility are:
- In-line vehicle sequencing
